Registrations are open for April’s teams sailing umpire seminar in the lead up to the national secondary schools teams sailing regatta at Algies Bay.

These seminars are suitable for anyone with a basic understanding of the rules or teams sailing. It provides a great basis for umpiring at local events, and attendance is a prerequisite in attaining club or national teams racing umpire qualification. An opportunity will be given to those who wish to sit the exam to gain club/national umpire teams racing status, with on-the-water practical assessments/evaluations occurring during the regatta.

Please note, this seminar is not intended for the school sailors unless they are in their final year and committed to umpiring in the future.

The first day of the seminar will include basic umpiring techniques, communication between umpires, some rules including definitions, boat positioning, Appendix D to 2.2(c), umpiring practice in the classroom and some calls from the call book.

On day two, we will consider umpire decision making, Appendix D2.29d0 to D5.3, rule 42, redress and damage, some umpiring issues, calls from the call book, regatta relationships, Yachting New Zealand NU requirements, and the format of the exam and on-water assessments.

Experienced umpires who wish to revalidate need attend only day two.

All seminar attendees are invited to umpire for the week at the 2018 Secondary Schools Teams Sailing National Championships.
